The Chets Creek story began on April 19, 1998, with our first public worship service at Chets Creek Elementary School. A small group of people felt led to begin a church in the Hodges area of Jacksonville. Our dream was to be a church where everyone felt welcome and wanted, a church where all people could connect with others in true community. The dream was to be a church where people discover something real, relevant, and refreshing because we have found God to be real, relevant, and refreshing in our lives. Our dream was to be a church that felt like home, all barriers removed, a comfortable place to discover God's plans for our lives. We strive to be that church.

A group of 30 core leaders with 51 guests began what has now become Chets Creek Church. From our beginning, we decided to let the mission drive this church. As easy as it is to fall into the church rut of, "What can this church do for me?"...we chose to ask this question, "What does God want this church to do for Him?" The vision of Chets Creek is to be a church for the unchurched, the unconvinced, the unconnected - a place where people can discover at their own speed who God is and what He can do for their lives. We are committed to breaking down barriers that hinders people from discovering God's great love for them.

In December 2005, we moved into our new building on the corner of Hodges Boulevard and Chets Creek Boulevard. God has blessed us with unbelievable growth in the time we have been here. We have also seen our church's mission extend well beyond our church building through numerous global and community missions partnerships. Church planting has also been a priority for us as we have been committed to supporting new church plants around the U.S. and Canada.

At our 15th Anniversary Celebration on April 28, 2013, Pastor Spike shared a vision for Chets in the next fifteen years. That vision calls for us to...

  1. Launch 5 additional Chets Creek campuses around Jacksonville.

  2. Plant 30 churches in the major cities of the United States and Canada.

  3. Increase our global missions efforts in strategic countries around the world.

  4. Develop young leaders.

  5. Become debt free.

A major step in the fulfillment of this vision happened on October 5, 2014, when 507 kids, students, and adults gathered for the grand opening of our Nocatee Campus at Valley Ridge Academy. Nocatee is one of the best-selling communities in the nation and God has opened the door for us to establish a ministry presence in this strategic area of southern Duval County and northern St. Johns County.

In the years since the launch of the Nocatee Campus, God has continued to open doors for us to serve additional areas around Jacksonville. Our North Campus, meeting at Oceanway Middle School in north Jacksonville, launched on January 29, 2017.

At the same time as we launched the North Campus, we began a strategic partnership with Epoch Church of Jacksonville. They were without a pastor at the time and we had the privilege of providing transitional leadership and helping them prepare to take steps forward as a church. Epoch officially became part of our Chets family in early 2018 as our Southside Campus. This location provides us with the opportunity to make an impact in one of the most diverse neighborhoods of Jacksonville.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2018, our mission remains the same as we are committed to helping others know God and be changed by Him in a way that will change the world.
